Cena Wins Without A Turn

The only thing that really interested me about this Wrestlemania was the possibility of turns. Everything else seemed basic. Last night was pretty dull.

John Cena regained the title. He won without any real shenanigans. They had teased the possibility of Cena turning heel. Instead of going with that, they go with the typical story. John Cena beat the guy he could never beat and recovered from the bad year he had last year. This is really tiring. Not changing Cena's character would be fine if he was doing a good job of keeping himself fresh and entertaining. He is often overbearing. That's not just a comment about how he is pushed, and certainly not saying anything about his wrestling ability, but his overall style is just getting too annoying.

What happens now? The Shield still has all their momentum in terms of being undefeated. Perfect obstacle for Cena to overcome. What kind of obstacles can there possibly be left for Cena to overcome? What the WWE is doing with Cena has gone beyond being stale. The criticism is getting almost as old as Cena's hard push, but it seems it can actually get worse. They are either going to keep running the same exact booking they have run for all these years for Cena or come up with even more unbelievable things for Cena to overcome. The bigger they are, the harder they fall. And when Cena knocks down even bigger obstacles in the future, imagine what that will be like for fans who are already tired of the same old thing.

On another note, the 8-person tag was completely bumped off Wrestlemania. On the one hand, I did not believe this match was worthy of being on the card in the first place. However, when you announce it and start to promote it, it isn't right to shrug it off as easily as they did. Some people can say that this snub was this year's version of what happened with Daniel Bryan last year. Others might say it was Cesaro not getting a match. The fact is, Daniel Bryan hasn't done too badly since his rough last two Wrestlemanias. Cesaro still has a title. I don't expect anything too good to come for those snubbed last night. The tag division, diva division, and midcard are not strong.
