Miz On Commentary

In case you could not tell, it was Miz who was commentating with Michael Cole on Raw this week. Miz usually has this obnoxious character. Combine that with the fact that Michael Cole has been annoyingly pro-Miz in the past, you might have been in for a painful few hours of Raw. Instead, things were pretty good. I would not say Miz was completely bland or impartial in every little thing that happened on Raw, but he did the job well. He was a good color commentator. He put himself over at times, which was to be expected, but also put over the guys in the ring, like Rey Mysterio. It will not be a regular thing, of course. Miz is still Intercontinental Champion. He still has to wrestle. But I wouldn't be surprised to see him as a commentator again down the road.

It also made me consider something else. Miz has never really been a face. He has gotten some cheers here and there, but that is not the same as having a face character. Going by how he was on commentary, I could actually picture the guy as a face. He has not had much character development in a while. Tossing a title on someone is not the same as character development. Giving him a fresh new gimmick would be character development. Giving him a storyline where he has to show a different personality or emotions would be character development. And he would not have to turn face for either of those two options. And yet, I would not mind if he did turn face. That would be pushing his character in a new direction. He wouldn't need a special gimmick or unique storylines. Simply have the guy start being a face. That would not take too much creative energy at all. Going by how he was on commentary, I think he could pull it off.
