If it was not the first Raw of September, I would be saying that this might be the start of a big summer angle. Last night, after CM Punk did the typical heel dirty work of costing his face opponent a match, it was revealed that Paul Heyman was the one driving CM Punk's car.
This is definitely a huge development. CM Punk wants respect? You go back to that infamous promo last year involving CM Punk. He mentioned Paul Heyman. The Internet fans love Paul Heyman. There was talk about whether or not these two would align themselves in kayfabe. Paul Heyman is definitely a guy who would fit as an ally of Punk. There is a guy who will give him respect. And it will also give Punk a good rub.
A possible partnership between Brock Lesnar and CM Punk? How about the two feud over the title? If they do team together, that can open the door for Triple H to return and team with Cena to help him with that. Why didn't I talk about Triple H's big speech last week? Because I didn't buy it as the end of him. If he was really going to retire for good, it would be a much bigger deal. And can he ever really retire? He will still be involved in the product, so can return at any time for a match. Anyway, this all really could lead to a big tag match down the road.
I think it would be safe to say that CM Punk is officially a heel. He refused to compete in his hometown, cost the top face a match in an unprovoked way, and aligned himself with an obvious heel manager. The Internet will still love him, but he's a heel again. If you think about it, since his debut, CM Punk has been face, turned heel, went back to face, and is now heel again. That does not include all the tweener runs. During that same time, Cena has been face. That's it. It isn't everything there is to character development, but I think you can see why some people complain about Cena.
