The WWE actually brought back Vince McMahon and Stephanie McMahon to Raw this week. LeBron James must have been on their minds. The McMahons were united to stand against Triple H facing Curtis Axel. The rematch did not happen, but supposedly will next week.
It is an interesting storyline. They have made it personal. They are treating it as something major. You have Stephanie even referring to Triple H by his real first name. The way they are setting the whole thing up is something I like.
What don't I like? They are doing all this for Curtis Axel? Who has this guy legitimately beaten? Sin Cara? This kind of storyline would be believable if Brock Lesnar was the heel involved. When Brock broke Triple H's arm last year, I don't remember Vince and Stephanie absolutely refusing to let Triple H face him. I don't remember them blocking it from happening this year in their two matches. Brock Lesnar has proven to be more dangerous. Curtis Axel just benefited from Triple H still hurting from what Brock had done to him. I understand very well that the idea is Triple H may not be prepared to compete after what happened to him during his first match with Axel, but he is obviously going to recover sooner or later. He has been injured before. It is a nice storyline to have, but seems wasted at this moment.
Of course, on the other side of that coin, it is good that they are developing some kind of feud for Curtis Axel. Depending on how they handle this injury angle, they might even let him beat Triple H in a more decisive fashion next time. Triple H can always take the win back down the road. Curtis Axel has gotten too many cheap wins against top stars. His win against Cena this week is another example of that. How about actually having him pin one of these guys? It does not have to be a clean win. How can you build up his credibility with these joke finishes?
