Not the person I expected to be talking about the day after Payback. Rob Van Dam is officially returning to the WWE. He will be at Money in the Bank.
RVD is definitely a popular individual and can go in the ring. Age is definitely a factor, but even at his age, he is still more fun to watch than certain guys the WWE does feature a lot. Having him back will certainly be a good thing.
Let me give the negative side of his return. This is another situation where the WWE has to rely on past stars to try to create hype and draw for them. How are they really doing with the current roster? If a guy like Sheamus was to go away for a few years and come back, would he draw as much buzz as Brock Lesnar returning? That is an extreme example. Let me just stick to RVD for a moment. He is not at the same level as The Rock or Brock Lesnar. It will be good to have him back, and he will certainly get a warm welcome, but I wouldn't expect too much when it comes to ratings or PPV buys as you would The Rock.
Who should he enter a feud with? I could probably run down an entire list. However, if it only came down to one person, I would like to see him feud with Randy Orton again. It was Orton who ended RVD's WWE career in kayfabe. Is it time for Orton to turn heel again? Possibly so. And if he does, feuding with a face RVD would be good. It would be better than having RVD randomly beat Chris Jericho in his return match.
