When I was previewing the final match in the series between Sheamus and Cesaro for Clash of Champions, I said that there were a few ways the WWE could get fancy with this angle. I felt they should not have done anything like that. Just let one guy win the title shot and go for a title on Raw. I went with Cesaro going for the Universal Championship.
The WWE decided to get fancy. The match at Clash of Champions ended up a draw. Both men complained about it on Raw. Mick Foley said they will now be teaming together and going after the tag titles.
I think this is just a terrible turn of events. It is not the first time this kind of angle has happened. A face and a heel have a rivalry, they end up teaming together, and they eventually get the tag titles. Problem is, this rivalry between Sheamus and Cesaro was never that great to begin with. Some loved seeing two hard-hitting guys going at it, but there were also some that found this feud stale. They had faced each other numerous times before the "Best of Seven" series started. There is no real rich story between these guys. This whole feud has just been forced. And now the angle continues with them teaming up.
Should they win the tag titles? New Day's reign of terror continues. If there are any records left in the tag division, the WWE might just hand it to them. I feel like the WWE is wishing that Sheamus/Cesaro captures some of that same magic Rhyno/Heath Slater has. There are not a lot of great true tag teams around. The WWE is just throwing together two guys getting singles pushes and trying to run on their momentum. It would be nice to try to do a better job building the true tag teams. As for whether Sheamus and Cesaro will win the tag titles, let's wait and see if they do capture some of that magic. If not, if they are viewed as flops, New Day will hold it for another few weeks. Anderson & Gallows are flops. The WWE still could have forced the tag titles on them. They didn't. I think the WWE will hold those same standards for Sheamus and Cesaro. If they do fail, they will just go back to feuding with each other.
