The story of Big Show in The Authority has been pretty messy. He was there almost from the start. They forced him to join. He never really was heel during that time. He eventually got his freedom. He spent some time away from that storyline. He then turned heel and aligned with the group again. It looked like he was a real member. There was even the vintage tension between him and other members that The Authority angle always seems to have. He took some time off. When he returned, instead of being a simple henchman for the stable, he was gunning for the Intercontinental Championship. Now, they refer to him as an "extended family" member of The Authority. They really could do better with this stable.
Of course, there is one good thing about Big Show not being featured prominently alongside The Authority anymore. He gets to work against some different guys, while some different guys can be used in his place. You have seen Sheamus getting some of the matches you would expect Big Show to get if he was still in the stable. Sheamus, however, is not a member of the group. Jamie Noble and Joey Mercury have also been featured more, but that is not necessarily a good thing.
If the WWE really wants to freshen up their top heel stable and the main-event scene in general, they really need to push someone new in Big Show's place. You are just looking for some intimidating brute. Mic skills are not important. Rusev would have been a great choice, but he is injured and still working with his storyline with Lana and Ziggler. Could the WWE debut someone from NXT to fill the role? You can talk about Kevin Owens, but he is a guy you would want to see actually be pushed as a star, not just as an enforcer in the stable. When Seth Rollins one day leaves the group, then you can bring up Kevin Owens to fill his position. Mark Henry is too old and injury-prone. Regardless of what the WWE does, the freshness just is not there right now in The Authority.
