The match between Triple H and Sting at Wrestlemania a few days ago had its fair share of shenanigans. Triple H winning was one thing. Sting had looked clean the entire feud. I didn't think that would stop them from letting him win, but that didn't happen.
The NWO came out to side with Sting and DX came out to side with Triple H. A lot of fans have brought up how Sting and the NWO were classic enemies in WCW. DX is obviously Triple H's group. Did this match really need this at all? The "WCW vs. WWE" element was there, but it had become clear that Sting's goal was to end Triple H's reign of terror, not try to fight a war that ended over a decade ago. It is like the WWE just scrapped that.
They also had Triple H and Sting shake hands. That is another moment I found questionable. If this was a moment of respect after a brutal, clean match, I would understand. But the match featured other guys getting involved. If this was a part of Triple H turning face and Sting motivating him to change his ways, I would understand. Triple H was back to his usual self later that night.
I just feel there was a bad story in this match. They tried to make it into something that it just wasn't being developed to be. You can talk about nostalgia. Yeah, you only get to see the NWO and DX so many times a year, right? It was a moment. They can talk about it on a DVD and some of those images will become iconic. But they could have done better with this feud and match.
What happens to Sting now? His legacy is not ruined. I am in the group that does not like how they made him look at Wrestlemania. I am not a WCW loyalist. I am not even a huge fan of Sting. It isn't just that they had him lose. It is how they handled the whole thing. Again, he's not ruined. And I'm sure there is more they'll want him to do. This past Sunday won't ruin any of that.

Totally agreed. The match just sucks on so many levels.
ReplyDeleteHopefully they don't try some kind of rematch.
