Becky Lynch Vs. Charlotte For Royal Rumble 2016

Not surprisingly, the WWE is having a rematch between Becky Lynch and Charlotte for the Diva's Championship at the Royal Rumble. Tension started even while Charlotte was still feuding with Paige. Charlotte officially turned heel by turning on Becky. Ric Flair officially sided with his daughter as her manager. He was the one that agreed to the rematch on Raw this week. Will that be the start of the breakup of the father-daughter pairing? Let's see if the WWE is ready to go in that direction.

Who wins this Sunday? I have said before that the WWE should make this into an elaborate feud. That would mean extending it to Wrestlemania and letting Becky win there. It is not likely that the WWE would develop something great like that for the divas. Either way, Charlotte is my pick to win at the Royal Rumble.

What reason would the WWE have for giving Becky Lynch the title? Obviously, title reigns aren't always simply awards for a job well done. Some people win them because the company wants to build them to be stars. Some people win them so they can drop it off to the person being built to be a star. Some people win them more as a "placeholder" or filler role. If the WWE did decide to give Becky the title now, I think it would be just to drop it to a heel they eventually want to put over. Becky Lynch is not someone I believe they would groom as a star. But would that heel she would put over be Nikki Bella or Charlotte?

Another issue in the diva division recently was the lack of face divas. Becky Lynch was pretty much it. The WWE has some divas playing tweener roles. Natalya popped back up as a face on Raw this week. And Paige was with her, as a face. That is just dumb. Paige had taken Natalya out a few months ago. Paige had said harsh things about various divas. Do you want to make her look like a hated heel? Do you even know what you are doing? Sudden turns is a tactic the WWE has used in the diva division in recent years, so it is not surprising that they would do it here. Nevertheless, it is poor character development.

I have said, if the WWE wanted to run an elaborate storyline with Becky Lynch and Charlotte, Paige would be a supporting player to utilize. She was part of a group with them. Have her return as a heel. She would be a bit of a tweener in this role. She would be against both Becky Lynch, a face, and Charlotte, a heel. Have her criticize and put down both. But build the story so she gradually sides with Becky and eventually turns face like that. Do a face turn that actually makes sense. Not "Total Divas" sense. I am talking about kayfabe sense. That is character development that would also further a storyline heading towards Wrestlemania. Obviously, the WWE is doing nothing like that.
