Some fans believe blood can add to the story of a match. Going by that logic, an injury might add to the story of a feud. And that is what you have in the feud between Ziggler/Lana and Rusev/Summer Rae.
The breakup storyline between Rusev and Lana has had its ups and downs. Some people say the WWE intentionally screwed Lana for getting over. I would disagree. But they have made some mistakes. And there were just some things that happened that were out of their control.
Lana suffered an injury recently. It has impacted the storyline and feud development. As far as Lana's well-being goes, the injury is obviously bad news. But in terms of the storyline, this might add more to the drama. Rusev had suffered a real injury a few months ago. Dolph Ziggler was written off with a kayfabe injury for a while. During these two situations, the storyline still continued. Rusev was still there with his crutches while he was injured. While Dolph was away, Lana was still around. Ziggler, Rusev, and Summer Rae have carried on while Lana is away. Part of me wishes this feud ended already, but all these circumstances popping up does give the WWE more time to develop things and possibly have more interesting segments.
Before Lana's injury, it looked like the storyline was going in a poor direction again. They had Summer Rae teasing that Dolph Ziggler tried to come onto her. It was trashy. It was similar to what you had last year with The Bellas and Stephanie McMahon. I don't think they need to go in that direction. They could have just built a simple story heading into Night of Champions. Lana's injury obviously adds to the story, but what they were trying to do just turns off a lot of fans. It might have gotten really annoying depending on how far they pushed it.
Lana's injury will hinder her training. Injuries is one of the reasons many eye-candy divas do not go far, especially those that the WWE has tried to push as centerpiece. Candice Michelle got injured too much and regressed terribly in her wrestling ability. Maryse suffered an injury and just did not seem to be as good in the ring after she did return. Even Trish Stratus, the greatest centerpiece the diva division ever had, suffered a few injuries in the final years of her WWE career. There were reports that Lana was in line for a huge push. Those reports failed to take into account other women that are already ahead of her and the fact Lana does not wrestle. When there was no huge push, those reports were dropped. Now that Lana might still get in the ring, how will that influence how she is pushed moving ahead? Some divas are just better in the periphery than going at it in the ring regularly. Lana might be one of those divas. And if she is injury-prone, even more of a reason to not even consider pushing her as the centerpiece.
